The Blasket Centre
Ireland
Head out from Dingle and wind your way along the spectacular Slea Head Drive, one you will not be disappointed with, stopping off at the centre on the way to get a taste of what life was really like in the early twentieth century on the western seaboard.
Known to generations of Irish teenagers through the writings of one of the island's more famous inhabitants, who, along with the rest of population at the time, endured a harsh subsistence lifestyle against everything nature threw at them before the final settlers moved to the mainland over half a century ago.
Today, the interpretative centre/museum details this unique community who eked out their living on the Great Blasket Island and who managed to generate a wealth of writings over the years.
