Killarney National Park

Ireland

Spectacular, expansive, scenic and still home to a herd of native deer, Killarney National Park, covers an extensive 25,000 acres including the Lakes of Killarney themselves and the surrounding densely wooded mountains. A reminder of the great Oak forests that covered the whole of Ireland for thousands of years under Brehon law until they were largely plundered in the sixteenth century for commercial and military purposes by the English.

The red deer have been here since the end of the last Ice Age, well not the same ones, its not Tir na Nog (despite what some of the jarveys might have you believe).

At the heart of the National Park is the Muckross Demesne, centred on Muckross House and Gardens with its exotic trees and shrubs.

Walk, cycle or ride in a jaunting car and enjoy the peaceful lakeside surrounds.
